The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 科技对于人类文明的异化慢慢要被讲烂了、而且大多作品浮于表面、隔靴搔痒。柯南伯格没有落入俗套，为这部未来邪典狂想曲注入了深刻的哲学内核。倘若没有痛苦、没有欲望，何来艺术创作？存在主义危机应该是每个时代、全人类共同思索的命题。
概念前卫，行为艺术的背景下对进化、人体和欲望的探索，但确实大可不必。还在期待些什么而电影就像突然熄火一样。
梦感。寓言感。没有“世界”。性的焦虑；创作的焦虑；表演的焦虑。生育的焦虑；增殖的焦虑；进化的焦虑。进食的焦虑；疼痛的焦虑。最后一镜的Viggo，无神的眼，一滴泪，蒙难的贞德。“Not good at the old sex”又何尝不是一种自反，如今neo-sex也成了old sex。视听有锐利的胶稠质地，挥之不去的蕾雅·赛杜和Howard Shore。

剧情和场景极简化，以聚焦表现影片主旨。主题融合了对科技与环境、物质与精神、艺术与哲学等相对关系的思辨，并不难懂，但表达方式稍显晦涩。雨果和蕾雅的演出极具表现力，为影片加分不少，相较之下小K的演技着实有所不及。尽管有着种种不足，但年近八十的导演能有如此旺盛的创作力仍然令人敬佩。
