The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 因为性是生命最基本的需求，而又被社会化的最早最极致，所以一切生命在社会中遇到的困境都得以围绕展开。一个房间、两个人、四段对话，你看，讲个好故事需要的也许真的不多，但讲个好故事需要的又真的太多。
我也跟南希一样从来没有喜欢过自己的身体，总是知道它哪里有问题，粗壮的大腿，肥胖的肚子，总是难以相信自己是性感的或者值得被爱的。哦，我看确实应该吧利欧这样的年轻男人当做政府福利发放给每一个自卑而缺爱的女人。这男演员太帅了连他的口音都那么性感。
讨论了很多很多，关于两代人的想法，亲子关系，欲望，思想的解放，身体的接受，女性的处境，MB或MG的处境…讨论了这么多又留下来很多思考空间，而不仅仅只是空洞的表达。

让人感受到了性的纯净和美妙。纯粹的性，可以抵达超越男女之情的爱。人与人之间最美好的关系是能充分信任，充当彼此的镜子，映照出自身的自卑与骄傲，隐忍与愉悦。

有些理想化了其实，清新得如同一场fantasy。（莫名发现自己好像更容易代入Leo这个角色及其职业，even as a woman）（Emma Thompson演得真是太好了）
也许我们只要做到爱自己，享受性爱，享受愉悦，其他的都不那么重要了吧。
设定很新颖，立意很进步，但是故事极其俗套，除了两人很养眼其他真没啥看的。想到也是有点禁忌两人相遇互相救赎的电影，超脱就要深刻一百倍
男主真的是服务非常到位了！了解客户需求，有耐心，会聊天。对于大多数女性来说，有情感基础的性爱才是享受啊！（这样的鸭我想每周订一次，但可能订不起…）
