The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 不仅极为少见地选取了一个现实题材，更难能可贵地达成了一部剧情与技术同等精彩的国产动画电影。音乐、方言、民俗、市井共同构筑起亲切的烟火人间，带有70后80后烙印的年代曲目成为生动的背景板。虽不再是神话题材，但将有武有艺的舞狮展现得形神俱妙、光彩瑰丽，骨子里依然有中国式的神奇与浪漫。这部电影配得上“永远少年，永远热泪盈眶”之语，热血燃情，蓬勃而出的少年心志足以触发任何年龄的共鸣。

第一个惊喜：非常标准的好莱坞情节点动画片。第二个惊喜：关注底层，关注民俗和传统，和九连真人真的非常配！
对工地的打工生活、街井人物，都是不加修饰的白描，鼓点和舞狮、少年人的奔跑，则是浓墨重彩的渲染。木棉和热带的阳光，画面的美好扑面而来。有一些尴尬的句子，尤其少年不断背诵李白的句子问李白错了吗的时候，可能是我最出戏的时刻，毕竟当代网络文学的文化素质的天花板就是背唐诗，没想到动画片也这样子。
最终决定给5分，既有新意又有立意，兼具现实主义的细致描摹和浪漫主义的唯美和燃。故事将舞狮的传统文化底蕴和所代表的民族精气神，与社会边缘群体（留守少年）的抗争与成长完美，有机地结合在一起。画面运镜质感一流，动作场面遒劲有力，配乐应景到位。虽然故事节奏发展有点过快且生硬，且感情线的埋伏似乎没有必要，但总体上瑕不掩瑜。

在电影中，舞狮是一个龙套一直努力训练被主角只需要打打工就可以赢下的项目
师父说：“别认”。明明知道被套路了。人生高光，留在背后，转身就走，不留下一片云彩；人呐，得憋着一口气，得为了这口气活着。非常港味儿，美术大法好，值得花钱去电影院，ost加分。
一种另类的英雄之旅，成为英雄并不会改变生活，但可以改变你自己。英雄也一样要面对生活，而舞狮传奇只是阿娟的序章，他的故事才刚刚开始。

可贵在少年英雄不是英俊潇洒的李连杰；可贵在怀旧又不破不立；可贵在展现困境中的人性光辉与人文关怀；可贵在不完满。大象在家乡，在广州，病猫变成雄狮可以跨越顶峰，却逾越不了阶级鸿沟。此外，展现的岭南文化和很努力出现的广东话也很是亲切。
都这样了还要啥自行车啊！谁还纠结眼睛大眼睛小啊！这还乳化吗！这分明就是太弘扬了吧！画法很欧洲，但是表现的东西很接地气，小商贩、广告牌、搪瓷杯…而且结局戛然而止也很好，没有过度煽情，一切都刚刚好，就这么一点不多一点不少。看完我直接烧起来了！ ps：阿珍老板娘好漂亮啊
大概周星驰的电影拍成动画就是这样子的吧。谢谢李白。谢谢梦想。咸鱼也要翻身做雄狮。以传统文化为出发点，比那些把悟空哪吒翻来覆去拍到烂的国漫强太多了。
